[DE] Mit „Minimalismus“ wäre die Praxis von Claire Rousay völlig falsch beschrieben. So sparsam und reduziert ihre Mittel auch sind – oft quasi aus der Mülltonne der Gesellschaft oder dem Reich des Zufalls gegriffen –, so allumfassend und grenzenlos ist ihr Ansatz. Rousay hat bereits den Widerhall von Rasenmähern und Laubbläsern in Musik verwandelt, genauso aber auch die Aura der unscheinbarsten Objekte und Ereignisse des Alltags, aus denen sie, gerne provokativ oder irritierend, emotionalen Gehalt hervorlockt. Sie arbeitet mit Trommeln, Stimme, Plastiktüten, Elektronik, Social-Media-Geplapper und Aluminiumdosen an einer Poetik des Übersehenen und Überhörten. An einer Musik, die am Rande des Verschwindens am stärksten wirkt.
[EN] “Minimalism” is the wrong word to describe Claire Rousay’s approach to music. The more spare and scaled back her tools – she often takes sounds that have been discarded by society or that emerge by chance – the more comprehensive and limitless her approach. Rousay has already turned the reverberation of lawnmowers and leaf blowers into music; however, she has also elicited emotional content from the aura of the most inconspicuous everyday objects and events – at times in provocative or even disconcerting ways. She works with drums, vocals, plastic bags, electronics, social media chatter, and aluminum cans to create poetry of the overlooked and overheard. To create music that is most impactful when it is on the verge of disappearing completely.
