DÄLEK PRESENTS MEDITATIONS — DJ-SET
[DE] Seit den späten 1990er Jahren aktiv, ist Will Brooks alias MC Dälek einer der Vordenker der zwingenden Verschmelzung von Noise, Drone und Hip-Hop. Mit seinem Auftritt bei A L'ARME!, einem Hybrid aus DJ- und Live-Set, knüpft er unmittelbar an das Projekt MEDITATIONS an, eine Reihe von Mixtapes, die er im Zuge der Covid-19-Pandemie in schneller Abfolge veröffentlichte: düster, introspektiv, radikal zeitbezogen und genauso kraftvoll, wie Däleks unverkennbare Stimme als Rapper seit jeher ist. Bei der nun endlich fälligen Premiere von MEDITATIONS als Live-Performance vor Publikum werden Projektionen der Bildwelten des Afrofuturisten und Künstlers Mikel Elam die Sogwirkung dieser Musik zweifellos noch weiter steigern.
[EN] Active since the late 1990s, Will Brooks aka MC Dälek is one of the pioneers of the compelling fusion of noise, drone, and hip hop. His performance at A L’ARME!, a hybrid DJ and live set, is a direct follow-up to his project MEDITATIONS, a series of mixtapes he released in rapid succession in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic: dark, introspective, radically time-based, and every bit as powerful as Dälek’s distinctive voice as a rapper has always been. Now at the long-awaited premiere of MEDITATIONS as a live performance in front of an audience, projections of the visual worlds of Afrofuturist and artist Mikel Elam will doubtlessly further increase the magnetic pull of this music.
