[DE] Einer der buntesten Hunde der jungen New Yorker Jazz-Szene setzt den konzertanten Schlusspunkt von A L'ARME! Vol X+I: Kassa Overall ist Schlagzeuger, Sänger, MC und Produzent, mit Hip-Hop-Vokabular genauso vertraut wie mit der Jazz-Tradition, auf Du und Du mit dem Underground und der Avantgarde in Brooklyn. Sein aktuelles Album Animals wurde bejubelt als das bisherige Meisterstück eines „der kühnsten Futuristen des modernen Jazz“ (Pitchfork). NPR beschrieb es als „den Klang völlig neuer Pfade, die sich auftun“. Overall sieht seine Projekte immer auch als Herausforderung im Kuratieren und Arrangieren menschlicher Chemie. Nachdem er unter anderem mit Angela Davis, Vijay Iyer und Yoko Ono gearbeitet hat, ist diesmal unter anderem Tomoki Sanders Teil seiner bestens eingespielten Band. Ihr Saxofon hat die nicht-binäre Musiker:in von niemand Geringerem als Vater Pharoah Sanders geerbt.

Vol X+I to its concertante conclusion: Kassa Overall is a drummer, singer, MC, and producer, as fluent in the vocabulary of hip hop as with jazz traditions, well-acquainted with the underground and avant garde scenes in Brooklyn. His latest album Animals has been celebrated as the greatest masterpiece of “one of modern jazz music’s most audacious futurists” (Pitchfork). NPR described it as “the sound of whole new lanes opening up.” Overall sees all of his projects as a challenge of curating and arranging human chemistry. Having worked together with Angela Davis, Vijay Iyer, and Yoko Ono, among others, this time Tomoki Sanders will be joining the well-oiled machine that is his band. The non-binary musician inherited their saxophone from none other than their father, Pharoah Sanders.
