[DE] Seit Arthur Russells Zeiten haben Celli nicht mehr so aufregend geklungen wie in den letzten Jahren. Für die Präsenz und extreme Vielfalt des Instruments steht derzeit neben weiteren Protagonistinnen auch die Komponistin und Klangkünstlerin Leila Bordreuil. Der Ansatz der in New York lebenden Musikerin zeichnet sich aus durch den Kontrast von rauer Materialität und einer fast traumhaften Melancholie. Dabei erweitert Bordreuil die Möglichkeiten ihres Cellos nicht nur durch Spieltechniken, sondern auch durch den Einsatz unorthodoxer Verstärkungsmethoden – und durch die Tatsache, dass Lautstärke und Noise in ihrer Arbeit als Solistin eine entscheidende Rolle spielen. Von dieser Kraft profitieren längst auch zahlreiche Kollaborationen, unter anderem Improvisationen mit Lee Ranaldo und Ingrid Laubrock sowie dauerhafte Projekte mit Tamio Shiraishi und Laurel Halo.
[EN] Not since the days of Arthur Russel has the cello sounded as exciting as it has in recent years. Composer and sound artist Leila Bordreuil is one of the main artists currently responsible for the presence and extreme diversity of the instrument. The New York-based musician's approach is characterized by the contrast of raw materiality with an almost dreamy melancholia. She expands the possibilities of her cello not only through her playing techniques, but also through the use of unorthodox amplification methods – and thanks to the key role that volume and noise play in her work as a soloist. Many collaborations have long profited from this power, including improvisations with Lee Ranaldo and Ingrid Laubrock as well as long-term projects with Tamio Shiraishi and Laurel Halo.
