[DE] Puls, Atmung, Bewegung, Raum. Das Duo SUM braucht nur wenige Grundelemente, um konventionelle Sichtweisen von Musik auf den Kopf zu stellen. Mit ihrer Kombination von Tanz und Trompete machen Kelvin Kilonzo und Pablo Gīw mehr als deutlich, dass zu Live-Musik immer auch Körpersprache gehört. Dass es um Gesten des Aufnehmens, Loslassens oder Versinkens geht. So wie die Klänge den Äther einnehmen – Gīw ist neben markanten Trompeten-Akzenten auch für den perkussiven elektronischen Hintergrund zuständig –, so lädt Kilonzo mit seinen Positionen und Schrittfolgen den Raum nach und nach mit neuer Bedeutung auf. Dabei bringen SUM Versatzstücke aus Techno und Krump, Minimal Music und zeitgenössischem Tanz zueinander in Beziehung. Der Ansatz ist denkbar simpel, die Wirkung umso hypnotischer.
[EN] Pulse, breath, movement, space. The duo SUM needs only a few basic elements to turn conventional musical perspectives upside down. With their combination of dance and trumpet, Kelvin Kilonzo and Pablo Gīw make it extremely clear that body language is an integral part of every live music performance. That it’s about gestures of receiving, releasing or submerging. Just like the sounds fill the ether – in addition to striking trumpet accents, Gīw is also responsible for the percussive electronic background – Kilonzo’s positions and steps gradually charge the space with new meaning. At the same time, SUM juxtaposes various aspects of techno and krump, minimal music and contemporary dance in relation to one another. The approach is rather simple; the impact is that much more hypnotic.
